Has anyone had a horse react negatively to this?

We put one of ours on who has 'anxiety' issues, but no major problems, but seems to have sent him loopy!

We were advised to put him on the one with magnesium, as only grass fed currently, but wonder if this is where it has gone wrong...

Am going to contact Equifeast to hear their reaction but interstesd to see if anyone else has had a problem,

Thanks

I've had one of mine on it for a few weeks now & seem to have the opposite problem! I'm not using the magnesium on the advice of Equifeast but that's because they say the balancer I use contains enough good quality magnesium to try without it.

It seems to almost sedate her to the point of being unrideable. I've spoken to Equifeast a few times and have been reducing the dosage but on Thursday I had a SJ lesson and she was so lethargic it was a waste of time, so I think I'll have to reduce the dosage even more or take her off it.

Interestingly during the first week of her being on it she was absolutely loopy on the 'off' days but luckily these weren't riding days.

I'm just not sure whether to continue with it to be honest, I'm not sure if the usual spooking without it is worse than total lethargy with it.

How interesting....I was 3 weeks into the loading dose and the horse became unrideable, but for the opposite reasons!

A seriously lethargic horse I imagine would be as dangerous as a psyched one.

I stopped given it to mine just over a week ago, and only today has he felt 'back to normal', so would give it a while to come out of your horses system.

Have you tried any other calmers? I am wondering whether to try the herbal route rather than the mag based.

I read that they can have some strange reactions when first starting on it but even Equifeast think mine's reaction is very unusual! I wanted it to give me the confidence to do some hunter trials because she gets so freaked out at them that I can't even stay on in the warm up, however at present she couldn't even attempt one as she just doesn't have any energy.

Equifeast are being very helpful so I will keep going for another week or so but after that I might have to take her off it.

It's interesting that your odd behaviour started 3 weeks in because we are now exactly 3 weeks in and I had to abandon a lesson yesterday. She has been very lethargic on it since we started but the last few days have been the worst.

I've tried other calmers with very little success, TopSpec was the best one but I was only feeding it during xc season and although it worked very well the first year I tried the following year it did nothing.

Bl**dy horses!!
