Bit of a "what would you do" for you all!

I saw an Equigel pad on ebay for bid. Put in the minimum bid of £5 and won it. These pads retail at £50 plus new, the only place i could find them new was from Jeffries online, hence turning to ebay.

Anyway the pad arrived day before yesterday, it is one that has a cotton cover on it. The gel inside the pad seemed to have folded in half within the cover and stuck to itself. I unpicked the stitching in the cover to see if i could see what had happened and with some help from a friend have discovered that the gel was originally inside a plastic layer which has pretty much disintegrated, and the gel has rucked up and folded and stuck to itself at the top end inside the cover.

Basically it is not useable how it is. It was obvious as soon as i opened it that it was not right, so the seller must have known when sending it.

So i have 3 options. I don't want to use it how it is so i could see if i could rescue it although not sure if the gel will "seep" through the cotton cover without the plastic layer. Second option is try to contact the seller and take it up with them or Ebay but to be honest for the amount i paid i don't think it is worth the hassle. Just annoying that the seller must have known before posting and there was nothing about this in the ebay description. Or the third option, take the "you win some you lose some" mentality and look for another one? They just seem to be pretty sparse on the ground!

Id say since you un-picked the stitching, there isnt much else you can do than just let it go and look for another. You certainly couldnt return it for a refund I wouldn't think, and even then you would still have to pay the postage which might be more than what you paid!

Find another use for it, like nice padding between your saddle rack and saddle. I currently have a le mueix numnah doing that as it was totally useless!

I think I would be tempted to give neutral/negative feedback as they sold you something not fit for purpose, but because you've unpicked the stitching you obviously can't get a refund etc.

If I were in your position I would find a new use for the pad (is it like a numnah?) or if unusable just bin it and chalk it up to experience. eBay sucks sometimes! Sorry you got a bum deal.

For £5 I would just forget it, other than to put up some unhappy feedback on ebay about the seller. I suppose you could send a brief to the seller saying the item was unsatisfactory and you plan to give bad feedback. Other than that, move on, for the amount spent, no need to have £50 of aggravation.

Thanks everyone - had never thought about being unable to get a refund after unpicking it.

I think ill see if i can fix it up. I've got nothing to lose at the moment as its no good as it is. Thats another good point too, the postage was more than the pad as they are pretty heavy.

Hate leaving negative feedback but at the end of the day its not useable!

Hi OP. For a fiver maybe let it go, although it is not really the point....see what you can do with it but do provide neutral/negative feedback, the seller must be more careful with what they send out, they may do the same again with someone who has paid a lot more for something.

Good luck VH

I would probably let it go. Did the pics give any hint that all was not quite right? I wonder if others saw something that you didnt and therefore did not bid which is why it ended so cheaply

Contact the vendor and tell them it is not fit for purpose and you want a refund plus postage costs.
If she asks for it back then give her a bad feedback, but you must give her warning.

Me and mum have actually managed to open it all up, straighten it out and sew it in place. Seeing how it is now, there is no excess material from the cotton "wrinkling" around it however in the photos on ebay it is quite obvious there is, despite attempts to "flatten" it out.

The ones i had seen (and borrowed) prior to bidding were the ones without the covers on so i was unaware of how they should fit.

Have left neutral feedback and think its a lesson learnt! guessing people who knew how the covers fitted had seen what i hadn't hence not bidding. but if it stays put now we've "bodge jobbed" it, then its a good bargain!
