Well Tilly decided she didn't like the soaked oats diet and consequently, with all her stressing atm, lost weight over the last month. I have had her on the topspec conditioning flakes for about 3 weeks now and although I can already see a huge improvement in her condition I have also noticed a big change in temperment. She has been far more wound up, clearly full of far too much energy, but is still good to handle but it doesn't seem to be helping her mental state.

So, went down to my feedmercahnts today who are brilliant and have a qualified nutritionalist to chat to and she suggested keeping her on the speedibeet (no problems with that before) and the feel good as it is a good forage/fibre source.

She then suggested feeding a handful (so about 1/2lb) of Equijewel in each of her 2 feeds and as I still have a bin of the topspec and it is improving her condition reducing that down to a mug (she is currently having a stubbs scoop) of that in each feed. She was brilliant and sat down and worked out that this combination would still provide a nicely balanced diet but hopefully one which will just work on the condition rather that piling too much into her!

So does this sound ok? I've never used the equijewel but she offered me a 20% discount as it was my first bag so figured it was worth a try!!

Bloody horse - it would have been so much easier and cheaper if she'd eaten the oats!

its fantastic stuff. load it into her to start with and then ease off as she puts up condition...we had a consultation from the crowd that make it and thats what they told us to do and it worked. took about two weeks on double dose then eased off.

If you contact SAracen - they are the manufacturers and they will give you so much help. My horse is lazy but anything heating hots up. They recommended releve and if still lazy coould add equijewel.

I have the skinniest Welsh Cob on earth and fed Equi Jewel all last winter. It was fab. She kept her weight brilliantly. I can't remember what proportions I fed it in, but basically a £30 sack lasted a month and she's 14.3hh.

For some reason this winter she's kept her weight (first time EVER) and I haven't had to buy it.

That's after over the years trying:
Blue Chip, Equilibra, Soya Oil, Veg Oil, Sugar Beet, Speedi-Beet, as much haylage as she could eat, as much hay as she can eat, masses of all her hard feed, etc etc, etc!!
