I've tried them and didn't get on with them very well! However, our fields are a complete bog in the winter with lots of standing water and very wet soupy mud so the mud just went up under the boots. I think they would be fine with drier thicker mud if that makes sense?!

I have found using udder cream or nappy cream as a barrier then hosing his legs off when he comes in and putting thermatex wraps on overnight works much better.

I've never used them but have got some ready for the winter as I was warned that my new cob gets bad mud fever. I'll be able to experiment as I can only get them to fit her forelegs (her hind legs are way too big for any boots). I'm still working out what to do with her hind legs but will probably try barrier cream and leg wraps for the stable (I can get these to fit her).

Does anyone know if Pig Oil works on clipped legs or does it need feathers?

I've tried sudocrem and all the barrier creams but my mare gets it so badly it makes no difference so I'm trying the chaps this year, fingers crossed. Black-n-White it does make sense about the mud, I hope ours is too thick to get underneath it.

I've been warned that washing continually weakens the skin and it's more susceptible to the bacteria that causes mud fever so I'm trying to avoid that this year. Apparently keratex(?) powder is good so I've been advised to put that on under the boots, then apply a thick cream such as muddy marvel to her heels or unprotected bits, then brush off any dried mud the next day rather than wash it all off

I had them for my pony a few years back and although I bought them mainly to keep his legs clean and dry rather than to prevent mud fever they certainly kept his legs very dry and clean in a bog of a field so guessing if he did get mud fever easily they would have helped.

i found the first version hard to put - you'd need to be an octupus to get all the straps done up tight enough!! think they may have changed design now??
