Does anybody know if you can hire these massage pads from anywhere? I'm interested in buying one for my boy, but he is a very nervous horse and want to try this before i buy to see how he reacts

I haven't heard of them being available to hire.

The pad comes with instructions on how to introduce it to your horse. As long as your horse is accustomed to being rugged and wearing a saddle, it shouldn't be a problem.

My warmblood is sensitive and very ticklish - thinks a body brush is an instrument of torture. I allow him to be loose in his stable while he is wearing it so he can munch from his hay bar.
He tolerates it. Other horse, a Connie, absolutely loves it. The connie nearly reversed thru the back of his stable when I first showed him a treat ball, but accepted the massage pad immediately.

Could you borrow one? I would think that most horses will accept it if introduced carefully. My ticklish grey tolerates rather than loves it- I started just putting it on his back, then on lowest setting and gradually moved up to putting the straps on. There are 3 under the belly and one across the chest so you don't want to have to get them off in a hurry!

Now I leave him alone with it on in his stable for a short time (still tied up though) He's on long box rest and I feel it is helping him stay supple... and sane

I don't think you can hire one, I guess you could post in tack shops / feed merchants locally to see if anyone who does have one would let you try it?

Anyway I have a very reactive spooky mare and she did nothing more than hold her breath and roll her eyes to turn and look at it when it came on and then as is buzzed away she ignored proceedings completely and tucked into her haynet. Never batted an eye since.

I've had mine since they came out and I love it

it maybe worth phoning them up, at the RC eventing champs last year you were able to use them for the weekend if you wanted, you may have to pay for it and then get a refund, but worth checking, or just see if someone has one you can borrow!
