What are people's thoughts about these - the close contact ones?
Are they really waterproof? Do they stop any mud getting through? Do they make the legs sweat? And finally, how do they fit?
I'm thinking about buying a set for my middleweight 16hh TB.

Any info appreciated.

I have both and prefer the hardy chaps (the cheaper ones which are thicker neoprene). I love mine: just fab for my arthritic old horse. Fit is good, they don't rub and no mud fever.

I have the hardy chaps instead of the close contact as they are thicker (neoprene). My mare is a cabbage with her legs so got these as they are alot thicker.
They dont make her legs sweat at all, so the close contacts shouldnt. The sizes come up big. I have a IDxTB (quite big boned) and went for a medium and they fit perfect.

Woo dont get me started.

They are fab in fit, dont rub etc but cant beleive they have a hole in such a short time as they are expensive, well they cost more than the hardy ones.

One un happy customer at the moment. Sorry bit of a rant.

The same happened to my friend, her horse was playing in the mud, and I think they must have slipped slightly, and they ended up in tatters!!
I must say the hardy ones I have seem very robust!

The cheaper ones (Hardy Chaps) are worse, my horse totally binned a pair within 30 minutes. They soak up the wet more which makes them heavy and then they slip and get ripped. I got the close contact chaps instead and they have lasted 2 winters with no damage.

I did have some hardy chaps which I found great for keeping legs warm and they did indeed save my horse from a nasty injury when he reared up and got stuff on some electric fence but found the mud got underneath them and then got held against the skin.

Q has dreadful mud fever so is on box rest. I need a plan for when it has totally cleared and he's allowed back out as don't want him to go through this again.

Any other suggestions also appreciated.
