Hello lovely HHoer's,

I work at a school for children with behavioural difficulties in the residential unit and have been taking children up to see my 2 horses for nearly 4 years, although for health and safety reasons i could never let them ride they can take part in all care tasks for the girlies including mucking out, brushing, feet picking etc. I have found that some children take to it more than others and some have used the horses as a tool to open up and talk. I could go on forever about this subject and individual experiences i have witnessed between my naglets and the children but i won't go on he he.

I have been doing some research lately on horses helping people and have found out that it is possible to train in this field but i wondered how financially viable it would be as obviously it is quite expensive to complete the training. Is anybody on here trained or working in this area? I woulod be very gratefull to hear any info you have! Thank you xx

I cant answer your question, but just wanted to say I think you are so lucky to be able to do that and see the positive benefits, as I always thought how beneficial it would be, (im a psychiatric nurse, on nights now, hence the posts ridiculous time).
You shouls go for the "formal" training, can your employer not sponsor you or maybe cover some of the costs?

EAP and EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) activities are growing throughout the UK. I can give you information on various training providers, and put you in touch with people working in this area. Please contact me direct at andrew@leadchange.com
