Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone has ever come across brittle bones/Osteoporosis in horses? I have thoroughbred in his late teens that is having bad time in the last 12 months.
He has chipped bones in fetlock joint and then in knee joint and is now lame again awaiting x-ray.
In each injury he has just gone lame no swelling, cut, mark or anything just lame he had heat when he was lame with fetlock but not when he did his knee 9 months later.
I have retired him from work since his knee so I know he hasn't done this from working, unlikely to have been kicked or hit something as that would have left mark or at least swelling.
So my next thought is that his bones have weakened and just breaking/chipping easily with his general daily routine in the field? I will take my vets advice and go through with him my thoughts but just out of interest has anyone heard or come across a horse that's has similar problems or do you all just think he having an unlucky 12 months and hiding the bruises well?
Thanks for reading xx
