Hi everyone.

I have got only a few weeks left until I complete my BSc (Hons) Equine Science. I was reading an article the other day, and it was talking about becoming a science teacher in a secondary school, as the UK need them.
I was wondering if there was anyone here that has gone from and Equine Degree to a science teacher? If so what would your advice be with regards to your job and the roots to becoming a science teacher... can it even be done?

I love teaching, I am a BHS AI so teach kids/ adults to ride, and I also have my own martial arts club where we teach ages from 4 up to 80, but no prior experience in a school environment.

I eagerly await your replies :)

I am a science teacher but need a normal science degree. I think you should be able to get a place especailly if your A level results are ok, and if you can hughlight the modules you did at uni that were more general science biochem ect. I would of thought your other experience with teaching and children should really help, even if its not a school. At worst they could maybe ask yo to do a booster course

I did Equine science at Bristol, I did A Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry before that. I had a place lined up for a PGCE in Secondary Science at York Uni for when I finished my degree, got the offer no problem or questions just the regular application and interview. I didn't take the place in the end but shows it's possible!

I have a Conservation Biology and Ecology degree and was told that i should do an enhancement course as my knowledge of chemistry and physics would not be adequate. This was a 9 month course which was then followed by a years SCITT. I didn't follow it up as i didn't have gcse maths (have got a hefty maths module from my access course and a stats module from degree) and since I am late 40's now i would be 50 time i qualified!
