I'm thinking of going into an equine based business in not too distant future and would like to get some qualifications behind me. Can anyone recommend exams to take on general horse topics and more in depth eventually, and also where to sit them. Is ho,e study any good? Or BHS exams, bearing in mind i'm 28 not 18!

BHS stages definately, there industry recognised qualifications and most reputable yards will ask for stages, normally a minimum of stage two, however some yards to training but on a training wage, think it was £80 when I did mine.

I managed to get my NVQ 2 and 3 while doing my stages, I dont think these are necessary but they will help a little :)

The BHS book shops have books designed to help you with the theory side and give pointers for the ridden and practical.

There was another thread recently - I think called "BHS Stages 1 and 2" or something similar, which gave names and authors.

You can do either care or riding or both - if you had some mileage they are fairly straightforward exams to pass. But, as with all exams - there are techniques that will give you the advantage - with this in mind, it may be worth looking up local riding schools, freelance instructors, riding clubs or even equine colleges and see if they have an prep courses.

The BHS website training section lists preparation days for individual exams to so it may be worth travelling to one of those.
