Our TBX mare has it, its day six and temp still not realy dropping much below 39.5, had 4 days of IV anti inflammatories and biotics, now got them for in feed. Just wondered if anyone else had this - how long it takes to recover and anything else i can give her? She is isolated at the mo as its contagious.

My horse didn't have EHV but was misdiagnosed with EHV1. He actually had Wobblers Syndrome but because he had ataxia and because he was confirmed as being a secreter/carrier (33% of the equine population are) he was misdiagnosed with this. Interestingly as a coincidence the horse stabled next door to him, and another horse on the yard were also swabbed and confirmed secretors.

I found out during this stressful period that there is a vacine that can be given to prevent this disease but it is only useful in some cases. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/horsecare/386/47647.html

Here is a useful fact sheet all about the disease.

To put your mind at rest, although it is a nasty disease it is rarely fatal. I only wish my horse had had this rather than the wobblers that he was pts for as at least he may have stood a good chance of survival.

I hope your horse gets better soon xx
