4 other horses have gotten the same thing, they are all geldings and all share the same field, however since mine has been ill, he has not been out in the field. One of these ponies, Mystery, lives in the barn adjacent to mine, so its easy to see how he could have caught this. However Tango and Parker live in a barn on the other side of the yard that my horse never goes through, so we are very confused as to how they have caught the so called lung infection, especially as Parker goes out at a different time to the rest of them. They have all be isolated and started on a 5 day antibiotic programme, however we are unsure as to whether to isolate mine, who has already finished his 5 day course of antibiotics and seems to be recovering, aside from a little chesty cough which is fairly normal. The odd thing is that the mare directly next door to my boy has shown no symptoms whatsover. The oddest thing is that the vet has now described it as being an equine flu-type virus but all of them are injected against flu+tet, so at a total loss as to how this is possible.
Has anyone ever heard of vaccinations not being successful?
