Hi i am thinking of having Equine massage done on my boy as can be a little touchy when putting tack on his back and when i mount, he is still very young, he's 4 years old irish d x standing at 17hh now and still growing. anybody out there had massage done on there horse and found it helpfull or not..... Any information would be great thankyou.. :)

Yes, I have my tb massaged about every 8 wks... He was a lucky boy and got a massage today :)
I feel it has really helped him to be more supple and work correctly. He does get areas of tension, and the massage stops them becomming a problem. He also really enjoys the session.
Kx

I am getting my mare who has laminitis massaged on Thursday. She got cast in her stable too a few weeks ago and I think she will benefit from some soft tissue release now.

I have always used ET (Equine Touch) or Bowen Therapy in the past for a body balance. This time I am getting a McTimoney person to do a massage. She can't have a McTimoney proper session due to her laminitis.

I have a WB who has had physio via TENS nerve and then muscle stimulation. He enjoyed this as well as just hand massage to his muscles.
I know several friends who have their horses massaged on a regular basis and say it is very relaxing and beneficial. It should also highlight to you any areas of tension in your horse as well as relieve these.

Mine get regular massage and physio (every 3 months or so) and they just love it. As already mentioned it really helps to identify stiff/sore spots and to be aware of those when training. I just love watching them relax and release tight spots!

Bodywork is great for your horse and helpful with lost of things - it can help highlight problem areas, resolves stiffness, improve mood and energy, and give your horse a treat at the same time.Do be sure your therapist is properly qualified and registered with an approved body (e.g. for Shiatsu Practiitioner the Equine Shiatsu Practitioner's Directory http://www.equineshiatsu.org/england.shtml ) and your vet will need to know as well.

Good luck with whatever you choose and keep us posted how it goes : )

I just had my almost 4 year old done. I got her a Shiatsu massage and it turns out she was really tight in a specific area which was causing her problems in canter

thankyou for all your helpfull posts, my boy is having his massage tomorrrow, i will let u all know how it go's.... thankyou gx

Hi everybody, my 4 year old irish sports 17hh boy had his massage and my horse therapist found my boy spine was out of line and he had a Pelvic Misalignment, she worked her magic fingers and did some spectacular movements with him, he was very sore when massage him on his hindquarters he kicked out a few times so he must of been in pain with this bless him, she said he needs a couple of sessions to get his back and pelvis right, she said he should make a full recovery. i can already see a diffrence in the way my horse is standing now and much better when tacking up he's holding him self a lot less tence and feels much lighter on his feet when we have been doing some light hacking, anybody had anything like this with their horse and did they make a full recovery in time, and go on to jumping or eventing.. x
