physios/chiropractors, whatever you tend to call them. Do you use one and what has been your experience of them?

Do you check the credentials before you let them treat your horse? Did your vet have to refer you to the osteopath?

Really interested to hear people's views as I'm seriously considering retraining and I think people are still quite cynical about it. I totally understand this as I was too and I think there are a few equine 'physios' out there who will just quote the same things over and over.....

So, are you for and against and what have been your experiences to date?

Yeo I use one for my boy, and she is lovely, really friendly and does a v.good job. I didn't check her qualifications myself but the YO did, and she was recommended to her by a friend of hers.
It seems to be a really rewarding thing to do and can make such a big difference to a horse!! Good Luck!
I may be wrong but I think you have to train to do physio etc on humans before you're let loose on animals...??

Yep you do. I want to train as an Osteopath though and not a Physio - there are differences between them.....all quite exciting! Just really interested to know whether the cynicism exists still....

Not with us, the liveries at our yard get there's done every year unless there is a problem and the RS ponies if they need it checking! IMO it's a lovely treat for the horses and really good VFM (£26)!

! My boy was done a month ago, but he didn't have anything wrong with him, so I suppose she may charge more if she has to do more??

I used a McTimoney once - never again, total and utter rubbish IMHO. Since then, I have always used a Physio as recommended by our vet. She trained as a human physio and then specialised in horses, she also works at the ILPH in Norfolk (fairly local to me). Luckily, my two heavy horses only have an annual check and she gives me a few exercises to do to keep them as supple as possible. She has been brilliant with friends' horses who have had problems. Personally, I would never use anyone else.

hi Jaylen - that's really interesting to know - I've spoken to a few people who were put off chiropractors.

What was is specifically that put you off? I know that they're quite forceful with their treatment......
