HI everyone.
3 months ago i purchased a beautiful 16.2 11yo TB gelding who has evented to a novice level. He passed a 5 stage vetting. Unfortunately he took a fall in the paddok right in front of me the day after he arrived. (he was playing with my pony) He fell onto his left side, got straight back up and then charged around like a loony like nothing had happened. He was completely sound and so i began to ride him and have lessons. After about 2 weeks i noticed that he had began to scuff his near hind quite badly whilst trotting on the roads. initially i thought lazyness and pushed him on but the problem was still there. Then he started doing it in walk as well.
I called the chiropractor out (same chiro as the horses previous owner had used for check ups) she treated him three times and left me with a magnetic massager to use on him for 4 days. We got the horse to the satge where he was only dragging in trot again.
However two weeks later he was back to doing it in walk. After a second opinion from another chiro i decided to call the vet. She put him on bute for 10 days along with rest and this made no difference what so ever. So out came the vet again.
He suggested a thermography scan which we agreed to. The scan showed cold spots on the top of his rump and along his back where the saddle would sit.
The vets suggested him to have OSteopathic treatments of which he has now had 2. The second one which was yesterday he really seemed to enjoy. It took 4 people to hold his tail as he was strecthing out so much. his muscles were quivering and spazaming. When i asked the osteo if he thought we could cure the horse i was not given a definate yes or no just an 80% improval. He suggested another 2 treatments the same as he has had already every fortnight, then for the horse to go under general anesthetic for one and then another 3 normal sessions after that.
I am just at the desparation stage and do not know what to do. sorry this is a very long post. has anyone else had a similar problem with a horse dragging its hind legs!
I would appreciate any replies!!
Many Thanks
