Hi. Title says it all really. Do you think an equine physiotherapy would be a good career. I know money isn't everything but I would need a job that paid ok. I live in a very non horsey area so I think around here there is little demand for it. What are your thoughts?

I think it would be a very interesting and rewarding career but it's a long slog to get there!
My physio (british eventing teams physio) said she trained for 7 years and you have to be a qualified human physio before going on to do equine physio!
I think if you get a good name for yourself and build up your clientelle (sp?) then you could earn a decent living from it but I suppose it's like most things horsie - word of mouth goes a long way so it may take a while to build your reputation.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

I was quizzing the physio about this the other day!!!
She said like Baileydoo..it's a long time to train and it is hard work getting there, especially if you have no interest in doing humans!

She works for one of the most recognised physio's in my area, and says she gets to work as and when she needs to really. She said she has to do about ten a week to pay her rent, but obviously if you work for yourself then money will be a lot more.

Only other thing is that Surrey is very 'horsey' and also a fairly 'well-off' area so that people are much more willing to pay out for weekly physio visits...if there's not much demand for it in your area you could be in trouble!

Have to train/do a human physio degree, then work in the industry then try and specialise - very long winded and expensive

I am already in my third year of the human physio degree. I am just trying to weigh up my options! Although I think I'm applying to go back to uni to do veterinary science.
