Has anyone used a urine testing kit to check if a mare is in foal?
In May I got a 8yo pony as a companion. I have since learned that she previously grazed with a young stallion, and I have not seen her come into season since she came here.
She's quite a nervous pony and is difficult to handle around the vet, So I thought a kit that I could use myself would be a better option. I've seen them advertised for about £25 which I thought was ok.
I've never had any experience of breeding before so I'm a bit concerned

Wee foal works from 120-300 days gestation - so make sure the time frame would fit. It has a 2% false positive and 3% false negative rate, so it won't give you a certain answer, but will give you a pretty good idea.

Ultrasound /palpation are really the only way to go though, because if she's carrying twins (or there are any other problems), you need to know!

thanks for your advice, I'll get my vet to come out and assess. I feel like I've taken on a bit more than I bargained for in a companion pony, and I have been unable to contact her old owners, which concerns me!
