Like most people Ive given calming supplements and pastes benefit of the doubt and used each one with little or no effect.

Ive recently have good results with confidence EQ but even that now seems to be ineffective.

I'm coming to my wits end with my mare! She schools well at home, in a warm up arena and as soon as we go in to do our tests (outdoors she's good, big arenas she's ok but indoor schools she's impossible) she finds every little thing an excuse to spook and nap! We seem to spend more time going backwards than forwards.

Anyway I just want to go into a test with the cool calm relaxed mare that I have at home. It's becoming embarrasing and disheartening when Im given my score and test sheet. Especially when I know she cn do so much better.

So my question is this. I've seen a few recommend the ES cookies and as it's something I've never seen in shops I've not used it.
Are they good? Do they work? What's in them? How many do you get? How much are they?

Stories please good or bad.

As they say.. Not all calmers work on every horse. It really depends on their diet. It seems that a horse needs the right amount of magnesium and calcium.. But more importantly the right type.
Read up about chelated calcium. Chelated calcium is only a very small percentage of the overall calcium that is in a horse but is quite important. There is a company that has been researching this and they have excellent results with it. Can't rdmember their name though.

I find the Calming Cookies very good. Do give the company a ring, they are very happy to chat to you and tell you any info you want to know!

We use them and are pleased with the effect they have. We've had problems with travelling our young horse and have been using the cookies. She travels calmly now, although how much is down to the cookies and how much is just her having improved,I'm couldn't tell you. But she arrives calmly and seems settled at new venues.

Never heard of them. I've tried loads of calmers with absolutely no results but last 5 weeks during rehab of sacroiliac injury he's been on Science Suppliments ProKalm and touch wood so far he has been brilliant during his 30mibs walking a day. Still sparky but not a lunatic like normal. Can't say for sure its that as haven't tried removing it from diet but I'm happy so far!

I've never taken her to school in an indoor arena as we have one at home and can't really afford the additional expense of fuel and hire. We compete twice a month and normally she has been fine indoor schools. We've had a break most of last summer while I recovered jaw joint replacements and it's been since coming back onto the comp scene that she has been silly. She's an IDx and is very bold when out hacking and has always been very stoic when it comes to comps. But the past few have been really tough to deal with.
I'm a para and having ride her forward every step is knackering!

Nothing else has changed. She was kept in work by my trainer (an international dressage pro whom I've trained with for many years. I'm stabled on his yard) food is the same, routine the same etc....

I've competed 5 times since mid January. I thought it was due to the time of year as the first couple pled outing were pretty cold. But this week it was wonderfully warm.

Peculiar! Did the pro have similar problems? Maybe he could observe you at a show to rule out that it's some sort of subliminal signal from you?

Things like MagOx can only work if the animal actually has a deficiency, in my understanding. What else does she eat?

My trainer hasn't competed her as yet but may do as I'm awaiting a wrist fusion and as we've started competing we don't want to stop again just as we've started again.

We are due to go out next Sunday and hopefully he will come with me this time. Other riders on the yard have observed at the comps and say she is just being a complete baggage!

She is on equimix, hayledge and hay with kmelite ultimate oil. The hay and hayledge is from a reputable source and is analysed along with the paddock grass.
Really my mare lives in five star luxury so I se why other say she is being a bag but she's my bag and we've been though so much together with my disability and I'm not one to give up on her.

What is Equimix? I googled and found something called "Equimix MAAC pellets" which has wheat meal listed as the first ingredient... There also seems to be the Triple Crown Feeds one, which I think is different? Such a minefield!

If her management hasn't changed since well before she started being like this, maybe the thing to do is to see how she behaves, when your trainer is there to observe. Nothing like a 2nd pair of eyes.

Yes it's the triple crown equimix. Good stuff!
I think you are right spooky pony a second set of eyes is the thing.

Ekw you get them direct from equine science. Not sure on cost yet, I'm still to find that out.

They do a trial size pack, a half bag or a full bag. I bought a half bag earlier this year and I think it was around £50 (not sure how many doses, 20 of 25 maybe?). A full bag worked out a bit cheaper per cookie.

I'm not sure of the science behind them but they work differently to other calmers. Other instant calmers have had no effect on our horse, but these definitely seem to make her more chilled out.
