Just wondered if anyone had any experience of using an equine spa to treat a hind suspensory injury (or anything similar)?

I remember writing an article on spas six or seven years ago when they were comparatively new - I think they had been demonstrated as effective in clinical trials but I was just curious as to how the anecdotal evidence had stacked up since?

My horse has just had a nerve block today which is pointing towards a hind suspensory problem, but scan and x-ray are planned for after Christmas. Vet said he'd probably use shock wave in the first instance but I was wondering if complementing that with spa treatments might be worth a punt?

I used the spa on my horses hindlimb psd.

I was very pleased with the results.

I also know someone else who had a horse who did 3 suspensories. The only one not to reoccur was the one treated by the spa.

My vet didn't feel that shockwave would really help my horse.

What area are you in? I always tell my clients it's best to use the spa as soon as possible rather than leaving it. even if you just use it for a week to kick start the healing process.

I'm in Berks, so I think the nearest spa is probably in Lambourn?

She went lame three weeks ago and has been on box/pen rest but I might give my vet a call and see if he thinks a few treatments before xmas might be worth a try. Do you know if they usually ask for veterinary approval?

I have worked with hydrotherapy spas for a few years now and have found it very effective. I have however in the last couple of years been using a game ready equine machine www.gamereadyequine.com which I have found gets as good results if not better and doesn't involve having to get the legs wet or restraining horse in spa. I rent this out on vet referral and we have had successful insurance claims go through for its use.
