Has anyone used an equine spa or hydrotherapy of any sort for their horse? If so, what condition did you use it for, did you feel it was effective and what did it cost?

I'd be grateful to hear any of your experiences/opinions :)

Left-over mince pies and mulled wine for all concerned!

I have! I loooove them! Used one for lami, one for shattered splint bone which had required surgery and one for a torn check ligament. All made massive improvements much quicker than the vets had anticipated. Insurance paid for it too (except for the livery, but some rehab yards will tweak your bill...)
The place we sent ours was family-run and the owner said she put her daughter in the spa when she broke her ankle! :D Healed a treat!

Oh, price-wise, i think it was something like £200 a week, which included full livery & the spa most days. If you Google equine rehabilitation yards, most have price lists online. What are you thinking about using one for? :)

I was very tempted to use one for my injured gelding, but vet said total waste of time for his injury.
But for injurys lower down they have good results and a good reputation for improving healing.

I used one when my girl sprained her suspensory ligament and I've got friends who used for their horses after injuries.

In my view they speed up the recovery time and are well worth a try depending on problem.

Yes, have used for Tendon injury, splint and most recently post arthroscopy surgery. Did the job for all 3.
Tendon was taking a long time to heal but healed completly after using the spa.
Splint was reduced to practically nothing in just 10 days (pics here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150759007225354.725097.510990353&type=1&l=6ca05579dd ) she had more spa treatments after the last pic in the album and now you wouldn't know splint was there unless you looked for it.
And most recently she's had a few spa's to help with the swelling post surgery and definitely helps.

We use www.horserehab.co.uk

She loves going in the spa!

Just remembered it was £25 per spa session, then livery costs on top. Unless you're lucky enough to live close enough to one that you don't have to keep them there :)
