Need alittle help.

I have decided I want to persue an actual career. And for a few weeks now (before i bought that book lol) Now in order to do this i need to partake in a Diploma in humna anatomy and physiology. I ve found a home study site that offers this..

www.openstudycollege.co.uk

Is this reputable?

Hi Nailed,

My friend has just done an intensive human course in London. It involved one week, then 3 weeks at home then another 4 days, then 2 or 3 weeks at home and then an exam.

Once she gets her results she hopes to then go on and do the Mary Bromiley course.

I believe she spoke to MB first and she made suggestions of where she could go.

I would imagine a good place to start would be by ringing people who will provide you with Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance and seeing what qualifications they will accept.

I would never work freelance without either of these covered, and when I was getting Professional Indemnity, they would not cover anyone who a)wasn't qualified to a certain level, b)hadn't got a minimum of 5 years experience and c)weren't a full member of our professional body. Slightly different scenario since I am talking about a professional consultancy job rather than a vocational course such as this, but the principle is sound - if they won't accept the qualification for insurance purposes then it is a complete waste of your time and money doing it if you intend to make a living out of it.

None of the awarding bodies on their list are approved examinations for the equine course so my answer would be no!

This is what you need to be considered for entry to a reputable course and qualification....

Age 21 at the commencement of the course.
I.T.E.C. Diploma in Human Anatomy, Physiology and Body Massage (or equivalent)
5 passes at G.C.S.E. (one in English) or proof of an equivalent educational standard.
Overseas students will require a certificate from a recognised educational authority showing an equivalent standard to the above.
Students must provide written proof that they have worked with horses, preferably in a professional yard or equivalent for a minimum of 4 years.

As a horse owner all i would say is that before i would let anyone near my horse i would want a person with thorough education/training and insurance. By thorough i mean years not a few weeks and a certificate. IMO you cannot learn anatomy and physiology in sufficient depth in just a few weeks and so someone with a qualification taking this long has no credibility in my eyes.

I would do lots of homework and look at lots of options, speak to reputable therapists and get their recomendations. this will stand you a better chance of a good career

I did two years of mature studenting at college just getting my human qualifications as far as I could before I even thought of going into equine.

Ive seen some absolutely shocking so called therapists at various yards over the years and theres no way I would let them touch a horse of mine and I certainly wouldnt be paying them for what they do!!

If its cheap, can be done at home or lasts months as opposed to years then its not good enough.
