I've read with interest some of the posts relating to breakdown cover on this forum and thought a couple of issues might need clarification.

If you own a horsebox (lorry) or trailer and you are travelling with horses in them, you need specialist breakdown cover to help you if you breakdown and your vehicle can't be fixed by the roadside.

Secondly, if your vehicle is not capable of getting your horses to where they need to be (and lets face it, that is quite likely if you're broken down miles away from your destination) there are two main methods used:

1. your specialist breakdown company provides fresh, clean and reliable horse transport to take your precious animals onwards (by far the best option, surely)

or 2. A low-loader lorry is sent which simply winches your lorry / trailer, complete with horses inside onto their lorry bed and piggy-backs the lot away.

I am an interested party here, but if option 2 worries you at all, do make sure you understand exactly how your horses will be recovered before you purchase this invaluable service.
Happy travelling!

There is a thread running on BD forum about the rip off that some breakdowns are doing if you have a puncture and you don't have a spare with you . They decide who is supplying a new tyre and they can be up to £450 when normally they are £150. Make sure you carry a spare that can be used and is in good order.
