Hi,

I'm off horse hunting in the Surrey area over the week-end and if I find a suitable G-G I will need a 5 Stage Vetting done but its a bit out the area for my vet - they will charge over £70 just for the visit charge. So can anyone recommend me a suitable vet around that area.

Also, is it better to attend the vetting in person and if you can't attend would it be better to get a friend to be there instead? The horse in question has already had a 5 stage done before it came over to the UK - should I still get a 5 Stage + bloods gone or would a 2 Stage (+ bloods) be ok for insurance purposes as I will need to insure. The horse is less than £5K.

Many thanks in advance.

Shotter & Byers. Michael Byers if you want super pernickety, or Mitch (can't remember surname). If it's Reigate though, they may already be the horse's vet as everyone I know seems to use them!

ETS I would normally attend the vetting in person, as you can ask questions and chat with the vet as it's done, but I didn't with my last purchase as it was too far away and so far so good (had him 7 weeks).

Hiya. Lingfield Equine Vets are excellent and I'd still get a 5 stage done as anything can happen from one day to the next and then you've hot peace of mind.

I would always try and attend the vetting as there is nothing like seeing it with your own eyes especially if they find something.

Good luck and have fun!

A couple more for you - Mayes & Scrine. Ben Mayes and Judy Scrine are the partners, both very good. Or Steve Brookes. He is also local to that area.

I am fairly local to there and my vets are Mayes and Scrine and would thoroughly recommend them, you're unlikely to get Ben Mayes but any of the vets are good, Anna vetted my last purchase, and I usually get Judy Scrine out to the yard as she's more local to me. I have also used Priory in the past and they're also good, have heard lots of good things about Stephen Brookes to and he's local.

Personally I would have a 5* vetting as anything can have happened since the last vetting remember it's really only valid for the day of vetting.

Editted to add, if you can be there for the vetting then that's better in case you need to discuss anything with them also the vet will also talk to you about what they're seeing/doing and it's also an assessment of suitability of partnership between you and the horse so much easier to assess if you're there to.
