It seems like a loss of melanin (skin pigment)

I know vitiligo can occur in horses but it is usually around the eyes/muzzle

it does resemble vitiligo, and yes it does more commonly occur on the muzzle and eyes but in theory any area of the body can get its, its often (I think im right on this) associated with photosensitivity.

however, yes it does look like loss of pigmentation i.e. vitiligo in your pictures

What colour is your horse? It's common in greys and chestnuts and ours has it on his face. It starts as pinpricks of pink, which rapidly enlarge and join up.

Our brown horse has a tiny bit of it around one eye but it is a small area (c.50p piece) and the dark pigmant comes back each time it happens then he loses the colour again and so it goes. If you are worried get your vet to have a look at it.

My bay 4 year old has it round his right eye, it comes and goes, one week the skin will be pink, the next it will be black again! It changes really quickly, it is very odd!

Actually, the pink round our pony's eyes does that - but where it is fur, he has spots!

my grey thoroughbred had this. you could especially see it when he was wet and he had more and more as he got older
