At Olympia last year I signed up for a free treatment for my horse, which he had this weekend. Obviously the intention behind this is to sell me the (very expensive) system and I told the rep I'd have a think about it, which I'm doing. She felt he might benefit from treatment on his legs and feet: he's difficult to keep shoes on; grows no new hoof to speak of; and is generally tender footed. He's also prone to the odd splint though they've never caused any problem. She said the increased blood flow from the Equissage system would help all that.

However, I'd be forking out £800  for that part of the package alone, and I'm dithering about what to do. Obviously I want to help my boy all I can but equally can't bankrupt myself in the process!

Anyone have any views on this system?

(Incidentally, he's been peeing for Britain ever since, so it's had some effect!)

Might be worthwhile seeing my previous post on this but I'll write out a bit of what I know here as well. I used to be a sales rep for Equissage so know a fair bit about it but this was a few years ago - though the principle is the same.

OK, firstly, I had a TBx who was the same with his feet and using the Equissage on him had a dramatic effect everywhere but specifically his feet. They were stronger, the shoes lasted longer, they split less and he was much less tenderfooted. I think the system is amazing and when I have a horse again I will 100% be looking to get one.

However, even 8 years ago when I was selling it I thought it was expensive (makes it hard to do a hard sell if the person selling thinks its too pricey) so I do understand your dilemma. BUT (and don't tell the Equissage rep this as I'll be doing them out of some hefty commission) the system was originally created for humans (Niagara Healthcare) and the human system is IDENTICAL to the equine one with the exception of things like the pad/boot etc. I'm assuming you are just looking at getting the hand unit as the full kit would cost a lot more than 800GBP. If so, have a look on ebay for people selling old niagara human hand units. It does the same job and you'll probably pick it up a LOT cheaper. The only downside is that I think the human ones have to plug into the mains rather than coming with the battery kit like the equine unit. Probably worth having a look for second hand equissage units as well.

If you've got any questions feel free to send me a PM. I would recommend using the system on your boy as I honestly believe you will see a dramatic difference however there are cheaper ways of doing it if you keep your eyes open :)

Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you for that :D Very helpful and I'll have a look on ebay etc.

Good to know that the system does work, particularly as seeing any improvement in hoof growth etc would take time to become apparent.

Yes, I'm only looking at the hand held element; the complete package was something like £2,300.

Yep, 20 minutes for a full session and there are no side effects so you can't over use it really. Its also really handy if you're short on time as it reduces the warm up time (hence why a LOT of eventers use it now). The price has gone up quite a lot though - was 1800 when I was selling it.

Out of interest, do they still do the marble trick as part of the selling spiel? That was always the best bit and was a great visual aid to show how the system worked.

PS: if you ever have a fall or are feeling achey its great to use on yourself as well :)

Yes they do still use the marble, and a phial of wheat grain or something..... very pretty it looked swirling around! Must say I'm getting very tempted to go ahead with this, either ebay or direct with Equissage.

My lad is in his twenties and anything I can do to help him has to be good.

Personally, i dont rate the equissage, it is over 20 years old now, and the cyclossage has come out (which is quite expensive).
the cyclossage works much deeper, is much quieter, and covers the whole entire body..
i have the human and horse cyclossage, i do rate them.. very high.
the human cyclossage has just proved it self, it is amazing what it does.. and has sorted out all the problems i have with my shoulders and back..
the equine cyclossage has sorted my horses bad back, and he has become much happier since we have started using it... maybe its worth giving the cyclossage a try.. they do free demos :)
hope ive helped xx

Have a search on here for some of the other threads, there is some really good feedback about Equissage but with it being so expensive it seems the cheaper alternatives are good too.

I have the whole equissage package for my girls & absolutely swear by it - I also feel you get what you pay for and to me it's well worth the price.
