Has anyone elses horse out there been prescribed Equisup 1 Tonic and Iron/Vitamin Supplement and what was the reason and did it improve their horses well being?
My old boy is a Cushing Sufferer and I had noticed that he has over the last 3 weeks lost his forward goingness (is there such a word!) when being ridden and I have to push him on which has never ever been heard of! The Vet has supplied this Tonic in case he needed a 'pick me up'. In October 2005 he went down with Cushings Induced Laminitis and due to this he is on limited grass, all the goodness soaked out of his hay and to add to that he is so fussy about what he eats, he does not eat up the Vitamin Supplement that is in his tea every day! Mind you I really thought 'he wont touch that in his tea' but he has been eating his tea with relish since including it from Friday night! They do say that Horses know when they are lacking something, so perhaps he is proving that! Apart from this he looks really really good and no one would believe what he has been through and only the knowledgeable would guess he is a Cushingoid horse .... the tell tell sign being a just clipped look as he is still hanging on to his winter coat, albeit a few hairs coming out!
Everything else about him is just as he was when he was young!
The Vet did say that the Pergolide slows them down, however as he has been on it since October 2005 and he has not til now slowed up to any obvious degree, I did not agree with that, so he suggested this Tonic.
Thanks
