I’ve recently bought a youngster who has gone off for schooling. The gentleman doing the schooling says he can be slightly cold backed. He is perfect to tack up but he said if you leave him a few days he can hump when you get on. The other day I went to see him ridden and he stood like an angel to tack up, walked out the stable fine (the guy didn’t take his time with the saddle was on and girth done up) and then he had a leg up, my boy went back about 3 steps quickly shook his head and then walked on quietly.
I will obv get all the checks done and he will have correctly fitted tack etc but what I wanted to ask is-
* does this sound cold backed or more as he’s young and only 3 weeks into ridden work more an educational thing
* he moves fantastic and was ridden in an open space and didn’t try anything
* will an equitex pad help him if he is slightly cold backed
* do horses have any supplements to help with being cold backed- was thinking more digestive system
I’ve ridden cold backed horses before even when I was in college and they acted different to my boy.
Also any advice will be gladly appreciated
