Equitrek or Ifor Williams?

I've previously owned Ifor Williams trailers and am looking to buy again, but am wondering what people think of Equitrek trailers. My budget won't allow for a new Equitrek.

Has anyone owned both? If so, apart from the obvious differences in living and travel direction, did you feel that the Equitrek was a stable as the IW?

My horse is a great traveller so I don't think I would have issues in either make but I'm just not sure that the Equitrek are as solid as the IW....

Opinions?

I have both a 510 and carriage treka although the storage in the carriage treka is excellent and I can see how now of the show treka or similar would making going to shows much nicer.
I have a friend who has had a show treka for years and it has been a good trailer.
However I will be amazed if my carriage treka is still around when it's the age of my 510 , the quality of the CT is simply not as robust and it has strange things like enormously heavy petitions but flimsy fixings
Both tow well of course the carriage treka is huge ( three axles) .
I think on balance if I had to choose one I would have the IW although of course I could not get a carriage and a horse in a IW.
I also have found IW much nicer to deal with that ET.

We have a 510, and love it, plus mechanic hubby says they are built much more robstly than the Equitrek. We had a livery that cracked the back wall of her equitrek from her horse kicking (between horse and tack bit). However, thousands of people do have equitreks and have no probs with them..

the best build were the Rice but they are out of business now.
My OH (20 yrs experience in trailers) would agree that the original Equitreks had teething problems but the the 511/506 have too.
Have known horses kick holes in Oakleys but wouldn't question the build quality of those, and have know IFW where you can poke you finger through the sides hence you can replace them!

All I'd say is there are many trailers/manufacturers out there and its personal choice BUT please ensure you have any trailer serviced regularly and do not assume just because you dont use it much it doesn't matter....

There are many ET models and actually the comparable Equitrek is lighter than the IFW.

The comparable models eg with no front storage or living -
The trailtreka M is 890kg, the IFW 506 is 920 kg
and a trailtrekaL is 910kg, the IFW 511 is 1000kg

then with front storage spacetreka M 1130, spacetreka L 1220,
then with living showtreka M 1240, showtrek L 1360

Yes well aware of that, but as OP (see quote above) stated living, I assumed she was looking at show treka, thus a significant amount of extra weight.

apologies but as th OP was asking if people had had both and that she couldn't afford and equitek I thought I would state the full position.
It seems the trailtreka is often forgotten and is the comparable model.

I have owned both ifor williams 505 510 and then 511 and now an Equi-Trek i have travelled both horses on the ifor 511 without a partition and they travelled well but would have been cramped with the partition, the Equi-Trek is far by the better one as its more like a lorry I was fortunate to sell my 511 and buy my friends Equi 2006 in excellent condition for £3,500 it has space to put all my things in the front and tows a dream but the ifor also towed well but i did tow with a powerfull jeep grand overland .
