Hi not sure if this is the best area for this. Has anyone had any problems with their Equitrek ramp? We have an Endeavour, had it for about 2 years and pretty much over night the ramp went from being light to very heavy. Any replies would be great. Thanks

Ramps are very easily adjusted, whatever the make. I had it with my old lorry - there's a nut you tighten to lighten the ramp. No big problem.

They definitely had a problem with the gas struts in some of the Sonic ramps. They suddenly became incredibly heavy. It sounds as if yours is the same - the new ones are fine as they have the problem sorted. Has yours been used constantly, or has it been left without the ramp being used for a while? If unused, the gas can go and the ramp become very heavy. I think it is quite easy to fix, give Equi trek a ring.

Could be one of 3 or more things
1. As Yasand crystal said above - could be a spring tensioning nut, often found on older models of trailers/lorry ramps.
2. Could also be a snapped spring.
3. If you have gas struts (sounds likely) then one or both could have failed. Worth removing and checking the compression on one/both.

Maybe worth giving all the hinges and moving parts a good spray with motorcycle chain lube or if you havent got that wd40 and then engine oil a few days later , otherwise its possible a spring has broken compare each one for cracks....

Thanks. It is the gas struts, which to be honest do not look sturdy enough to be the only things holding the ramp (no springs). It had been sitting for a week maybe 2, in which it went from having to jump to pull it down to nearly crushing my sister. It then got used quite a bit in a few days and didn't get better. Was just wondering if it was a wider issue. Have phoned Equitrek HQ and they are trying to wash their hands of the issue even though it is still under warranty.

Probably not of any use, but the Equitrek space trekker that I used to use had the heaviest ramp that I've ever lifted in my life!! Possibly just needed adjustment as others have pointed out. There is no way I could have taken that trailer out on my own, I'd have never got the blinking ramp shut again (or got squashed when I tried to open it )

I have a Supersonic and had the same problem last year, Equitrek supplied replacement gas struts which were an upgrade on the originals and no problems since. We paid for them as out of warranty but had good and quick service from them.

An yet I could close mine with one hand. Just goes to show.

OP: Have you had it serviced in the two years since you bought this?

Thanks for replies. Kal40 yeah it has been regularly serviced. We bought it brand new and it is fairly regularly used, so struts should be lasting more than 2 years.

Has any one had issues with the ramp motor on their Equitrek lorry? mine wont lift the ramp without someone physically lifting it aswell. Company dont want anything to do with it, and yes it's less than 3 years old and out of warrenty, but £1100 for a replacement is a bit much! I have had replacement struts etc and no end of trouble with the ramp since I have had it. Interestingly, the advert on the web advertises a "fail Safe system which lifts and lowers the ramp at the touch of a button", certainly not in my case!
