Hi

Does anyone have any positive or negative feedback relating to the Equi-trek Show Treka?

I'm thinking of changing my current trailer and am interested in the Show Treka purely because of the changing/storage area.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of vehicle do you drive?
I've been thinking about an Equi-trek too, but they always look so big and heavy to me - does anyone know the weight and whether you can tow them with anything or do you need a big 4x4?? I have a Nissan Navara 2.5 diesel and am unsure as to whether it'll tow an Equi-trek or not...?!

I drive a Nissan Navara!!
I previously towed a 510 which weighs 1000kg unladen and the Space-treka i'm interested in weighs 1150kg, so our Navaras will tow that with absolutely no problems, even with 2 horses on board, as they are well within the manufacturers guide lines (don't forget Navaras were developed with towing in mind!!).
The space-treka is the smallest one they make and i'm interested in the large version, the medium size weighs slightly less then the figure above. I wouldn't fancy towing some of the bigger versions purely because of how long that makes the car/trailer combination.

I now have a Show Treka having previously had a Sports Treka. Both are superb to tow - I drive a 2.5 diesel Discovery. The only reason I didn't consider a Space Treka was the lack of somewhere to sleep!

The overall length of the car-trailer combination seems neither here nor there - I find it very manageable but recognise that the Navara is longer than the Disco. The new models are lighter than the older ones - more use of GRP in the body, I think.

hmmm, interesting! I didn't realise they were so light. I have a 505 at the moment but a truly horrible wet day out SJ yesterday has got me thinking how nice it would be to have somewhere dry (not to mention private) to change...!
what sort of prices are the Show Trekas?

About £7500 new depending on what extras you want. Sounds a lot but they are a superb alternative to a lorry and you don't have to get them plated! Plus they hold their value well - I got a really good trade-in on my old one because there was already a buyer lined up.

The Space-treka is only approx £5600, so if you don't need much in the way of day living, its a good cheap alternative.

Thanks for the replies, I think I might have to buy one!!

Does everyones horses like them too?

Please feel free to PM me if you would like any info on the Equi-Treks... I have now owned one for 2 years and absolutely love it! The only reason i would sell it would be because I needed to travel more than two horses to a venue when my foal is older.

I have the 4 star model, and my horses travel fantastically in it (one had never travelled well before I got her) and the living is a great advantage if you are at a show ground and have more than one test to ride.

Do the horses load well in them? My mare is fine with lorries (or so I believe I don't have one) but can be a bit of a cow with my 505, we had to take the partitions out in the end, not very helpful if need to travel more than one horse!

my friend owns one and they are really nice and bright inside for the horse. Although the horses got really hot in it, so she had something fitted in the roof (aircon type thingy) the living space in its obviously major bonus, and all the space to put tack and stuff is so much better than stuffing it all in a car!

My horses load and travel really well in them, and the new models have roof ventilators fitted as standard - although I never experienced a problem with all the windows open.

2 of my friends have them and I really like them, the horses always travel well in them & there's somewhere dry to change.

I love my space treka, its fantastic. The horses travel so well in it, you can sleep in it (squished!) change in it, carry lots in it...not too much more than a new ifor really. its much wider in the body as well and the wheels sit under the body so its easier to manouver unlike ifors that may not fit thru traffic calming thingagummies. I had never towed with horses before , only flat beds etc and its the easiest thing to move around. I had to reverse it around a corner last week!

Ive got a Show Trekka and not had any problems with it at all. The only thing I have heard and its on the older stock is that the ramps fell off but dont know how true this is as no one else I know has mentioned anything about it. I love my Equi trek and the only reason I would get rid of the Show Trekka is to upgrade to the 5 star.

My first one, a Sports Treka which I had for four years, had a few teething problems but nothing serious. The most annoying was that the ramp hinges hadn't been properly greased at the manufacturing stage so it got heavier and heavier to lift despite being regularly serviced. I haven't heard any horror stories about ramps falling off.

I did hear that one partition had fallen on a horse but it turned out the owner hadn't located the bolts correctly when moving the partition.
