......a friend's youngster (Conn x) has started rearing on hacks. It looks to be partly teenage tantrums and partly lack of confidence - he's 5 - but also he seems more generally on his toes lately.

Has anyone heard of Equivite causing over excitement? The addition of Equivite has coincided with the deterioration of his behaviour, so there appears to be a link there.....

It sounds as though the equivite has made the horse feel good but i wouldent say would have caused the behaviour. The spring grass is beginning to creep through and the change in seasons could all play a part in the horses behaviour.

No it won't be equivite that's causing it.........as previous poster says, new grass? or possibility of feeling insecure whilst out. Take him out with another safe horse & it should build his confidence.

Grass full stop would be a novelty at our yard - fields are mud soup.
Nothing else has changed, only the addition of Equivite, and he is looking well on it....

I've had this with various products, and whilst the feed companies will tell you they aren't heating, and as such they aren't, they can make the horse get a bit overexuberant.

Easy way to check while fields still muddy and no grass is to cut it out. Given 4 or 5 days with no other change if you begin to see a change for the better, there's the answer.

My horse is as dead as ever on Equivite. But there is definately new grass just peeping through, although I can't see it yet over the mass of mud and puddles my horses have actually started browsing now and not just mushing their hay piles into the ground! So definately something happening there which could possibly be a cause?

I've used equivite original and body builder and never had any problems. there is no starch in either of them.

are you sure its Equivite supplement that you're using?

Not me - a friend.

I use Equivite with no probs on my feed-sensitive boy, but her youngster's attitude problem has coincided with the addition of Equivite.

My mare goes a bit loopy on Equivite I have known a few horses to react to it. Why does'nt your friend cut it out of its diet to see if it is that causing the problem.

When I got my loan..He had only hjust moved yards. He was fine for the first few weeks and then suddenly started rearing in thestable..and eventually bucked me off. Not sure what his reason for this was..I'll never find out either!! I'm sure it was something to do with equivite thought!!
