EQUUS THE PLAY..starring Danny Radcliffe...ends

I see that this play has now come to an end..it didnt appear to get a very long run at this theatre??perhaps the play will tour..not with Daniel as he has further HP work to do ..but there are plenty of young actors who would give the role credit..I first came to hear about Equus when a friend said that they were studying the play at school..and that it was about a boy who got a sexual release from riding horses bareback??I got the 70s film starring Peter firth and Jenny Agutter,it was a rather disturbing film,but well made and does the play credit..I watched Daniel being interviewed on Jonathan Ross show and ross stated that Dannys character is a horse molesteror..but Danny was quick to correct him by saying that the boy got off riding horses naked...this was his source of his disturbed condition..which triggered his act of crime in blinding 6 horses...This play was based on a true story..Peter Shaffer was being driven through the English countryside on a bleak misty day,as he passed by some remote stables his driver told him of a horrific incident at those stables in which a maniac had blinded 6 horses..and this was the inspiration for the play EQUUS....the play will hopefully carry on soon

That's not what the play is about.

The boy's mother is very religious and both parents don't allow him to watch much tv.....the father isn't religious and doesn't like the boy idolising 'god' and all religious stuff is removed from the house. The boy loves horses, having met a man riding a horse on a beach when he was little. He gets a job at a riding school and begins to use horses as his 'God', the one god being 'Equus'. He reveres this horse god, and being a sexually frustrated 17 year old, some of this does come out as sexual desire (not a 'getting off on riding bareback' thing at all - much more psychological than that). He falls for the girl who works at the stables and is about to have sex with her but he cant because of the horses watching..he feels he is letting down his 'God and thus blinds them.
