Horses4Homes are appealing to the public for homes for 4 young, healthy Eriskay Ponies.

Their current owners are being forced out of their home due to the recession and have little money to feed themselves but have not allowed their animals to suffer due to their own misfortune.

Without the quick intervention of Horses4Homes these 4 ponies would have been sent to slaughter. This would have been a tragedy given these ponies are on the critical list of the rare breeds register.

These rare ponies originate from the western isles of Scotland and are one of the hardiest, if not the hardiest, of our native breeds. There are only just over 400 in the world.

The ponies are 3 year olds and range from 12.2 -13.2 hands and will make ideal children’s ponies or conservation grazing ponies due to their hardy and personable nature.

If you think you have the time, expertise and facilities to offer any of these youngsters a temporary or permanent home please contact rebecca@horses4homes.net who will provide you with an application form to complete to assess your suitability.

The site is Hauction, a horse auction site. I don't normally go on it but have received 2 emails about the ponies in the past couple of hours so I thought I'd repost here.

I think Hauction is just passing on the news. I just added the link so people could see the story.

Has the Eriskay Pony society been informed? Have the rare breeds survival trust been informed? Maybe they have people who could take them even if only temporarily.

Don't know. I was just reposting in case anyone here was interested. I am nothing to do with any of this. I'm just on their mailing list for some reason.

All enquiries are probably best directed at the email address in the 1st post. :)
