Errm - Best Deodrant for riders?!

I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but seriously, what is the best deodrant/anti perspirant on the market

I've ditched the old Sure and have started using Mitchum, which is supposed to work for 48 hours. But it can't even do 48 minutes of schooling without me getting horrid sweaty pits

Usual day to day I've no worries (really, I can be quite presentable!), but when working my horse I am fed up of being more sweaty and stinky than him! And I have to throw away my riding tops after a few months as they get a bit yukky in the armpits and not even Vanish Oxy can get them nice again.

So please kind HHOs, if you have found the ultimate deodrant to keep me dry and pleasant smelling, I'd love to know.

*hides head under cushion in shame*...

Perspirex but please please read the instructions and DO NOT over apply. Three scoots of it maximum (it is habit to do about ten believe me you will suffer if you do).

I have just come to accept that I will stink :p
I am surprised the local coop hasn't banned me yet, especially as I go in at the weekends often stinking of sweat, horses, and coveted in mud from having been out on my MTB or for a run!
My t shirts also end up super whiffy, but more so for the cotton ones than my technical t shirts

Mitchum 48hr used to work for me but then after a while didn't seem as effective, though I can't understand why really! I now alternate between women's Rightguard Xtreme Dry 72 hour (not that I go anywhere near that long without showering! :p) and Dove Beauty Finish (which smells really nice :)) both seem to work well but I would probably choose to pop the Rightguard on if I was spending all day down the yard/a day eventing, as opposed to a quick ride, though Dove hasn't let me down yet! :).

Might be worth investing in a merino wool top. Not the cheapest but OH who is a mountain biker had the same issue with throwing tops away as they just stank. He now wears mostly merino and no smell any more :)

To improve the smell use old-fashioned soap and water rather than bodywash and shower gel. Wash clothes at an appropriate temperature - bacteria cause the smell and 30 or 40 degree washes won't kill them.

Keeping you dry is another matter, for which I have no answer I'm afraid.

Ice Guard natural crystal salt....A..MAZ..ING:)
If there was an Olympics for sweating I would be a Gold medallist:)
I wash UA's with soap and water....apply the Ice Guard...and hey presto NO smell (it has no perfume either) and is applied with water.....it is a dome shaped hard crystal which comes in a wind up deoderant thingy.... it doesn't stop you sweating...but you won't pong:)
You get it from Health food shops.
Best of luck

I would think you might risk making yourself ill if you put something on that stops you sweating - it's a good normal natural responce to getting too hot.
Maybe take a spare top to the yard and change after schooling, so you don't have wet patches, any any cheap and chearful body spray. Fresh sweat doesn't really smell,, as above it's bacteria growing in it that's gross!!

Wash at 90 is also good idea

Have all you stinky people tried a proper thing like perspirex or the crystal one bryndu mentioned, out of interest?

Perspirex doesn't stop you sweating either incidentally it just stops you stinking.

I use the Mitchum roll on which is great but I would just make sure you give it time to dry after you've put it on, go and brush your hair to keep your arms lifted up!

I suffer with this too. Have just googled perspirex, and it does temporarily block the sweat ducts

Think I'm gonna have to get some!

Another vote for sure maximum protect!! I used to use something similar to perspirex (can't remember name now) and it itched like crazy and drove me insane. Sure maximum protect is the only other one i have found that does the same job but with no side effects

I think its good. I had the crystal thing years ago which was also good (god knows how it works) but you can't buy it in tesco. Please read my first post about overdosing tho :D

Warning noted! :p

Perhaps won't use it during heatwaves when I am out dog walking all day though. Had mild heat stroke twice this summer - fainting whilst in the middle of nowhere with other peoples animals under your care would NOT be a good plan haha! I will just stick to sanex in the heat, and being sweaty, hopefully not stinky! :D Will try perspirex for the rest of the year though - I am on meds that mean I sweat excessively even in winter grrrr!

You use it every day for a week I think then just once a week or so as a top up. I don't think it would make you collapse, you still sweat elsewhere but just no odour, honest :)

another vote for perspirex, started using it at the beginning of the summer and have noticed a huge difference! defo follow the instructions to the letter though!

Ah, another wounded soldier :D. I read them carefully after I applied it and my arm was on fire.... If you do over apply wash it off and that helps

A friend who sweats like a, um, horse, swears by having her pits waxed. Not sure how it helps, but she reckons its does. Also, re drying roll-on deodorant, I use a hair-dryer. Roll-ons are a bit retro, but cheaper than sprays and, I think, more effective. Another also, those expensive wicking tops smell equally as bad as cotton after a sweaty session, I reckon.

Dove invisible! The silver top roll on. I used to suffer from smelly tops and crusty armpit sleeves no matter how well I washed my tops. I ditched the sure spray and went to dove roll on, the silver in particular means no stained or smelly clothes any more!

Right after much tried and testing!
Clothes - chuck sweaty stuff straight in a bucket/bath of napisan (sold in baby section) and warm water. Wash with bio powder, NO fabric conditioner as it holds smells in. You can add a scoop of napisan to the wash too
Body - anti bacterial soap under arms when washing - something like dettol bar soap
Apply sure/dove 48hr cream (it's about £5) at NIGHT. In the am, use a spray of anything, I'm using right guard at the moment

If that doesn't work, I shall eat my (non sweaty) top ;)
