Hi all,

Can anyone point me to any good sources of information on the above? One of the ponies at my yard "tied-up" almost two weeks ago and although her labs are improving the physical symptoms aren't, and her owner is obviously worried. It's not something I've ever had to deal with, so know very little about it.

Thanks :)

No idea what triggered it. Pony currently on Baileys lo-cal and hay; t/o at least 6 hours a day. At the time of the occurrence she had had 5 days off work then went on a gentle hack walk/trot and tied up on the way back/ as they got back to the yard. Other factors included it was -6°C at the time, and she was/had been in season.

So what regime is she on now post tying-up? Is she on box rest? Is she on any drugs/supplements? Are bloods just 'improving' or totally back to normal? Is she drinking well? (Dehydration is a possible cause of tying up, especially when very cold as some horses are reluctant to drink chilled water.). What breed is the pony?

Pony is a PFS (poney français selle), and is 6 years old. She has been on strict box rest since coming back from the clinic (was hospitalised due to precipient renal failure) Renal labs are now normal, CK is still very high but reduced from where it had been (off the chart - literally) After the last blood test yesterday she was allowed 2x 10 min walks in hand per day, but spent the first session bouncing around. This morning she went for a walk, and was then attached outside while her box was mucked out, and after 10 minutes was extremely stiff again so I think she's on box rest again. She is currently on buckets of water to monitor how much she is drinking (normally we all have automatic waterers)

She is on a supplement, but I'm not sure what, may be electrolytes or renal support.

Pony in herself is happy and relaxed (normal attitude). She is going to be tested for PSSM, but she doesn't really have any of the susceptible breeds in her linage.
