Escaped Horses on M25

I think they meant scamper as in to canter/gallop regarding the gait and how horses can be seen to scamper as do dogs. I have heard the term used before but not usually when referring to horses but usually dogs and rabbits amongst other animals.
I am glad to hear that no horses were injured or killed though as it upsets me when horses and other livestock escape onto roads and get injured/killed

Very lucky no-one (horse or human) was injured. About 18 years ago, a very close friend returned from a skiiing holiday having left her horse and daughter's pony in full livery. When she arrived at the yard, there was mayhem; someone had accidentally let six horses out of the field, three had been caught but the other three, including my friend's horse, got on the A1M at North Allerton and were all killed. To this day, my friend cannot talk about it.

when i was 14 i got a new pony he jumped out of the field (which was beside gatwick runway) and galloped up the a23, caused complete chaos, lady who caught him was a air hostess that had been called out to attend a flight, pony ended up at a slaughter yard. i did how ever get my picture in the news of the world! its a horrible thing to happen though for all concerned
