Hey,

recently i moved my pony to a new yard. Since we have been there she has escaped twice. Last time she was seen to jump the fence but she caught the fence on her way over and broke it. luckly that was only into another field.
Dad came up and fixed the fence so there was no more problem.

This evening when i get to the yard rosie is in a different feild.
I spoke to the other lady who was at the yard and she said she found her by the top gate at 10 am (we only put her in the field at 8.30!) so she went to catch her pony ran into that filed so they shut her in there.

Went to see if she had broken any of her fence getting over. Nothing.
The fence is about 4 ft tall. I know she can jump but surely not 4 ft clean!

What can i do? is electric tape the only way?

my pony would do this all the time too....but would often turn up 4 miles outside the village in a sheep field!!
I think the best thing would be to see if she is being bullied in the field...can you stable her..? It might be worth stabling her for a while to get used to the yard....
If you cant do these then maybe place electric fence in front of the fence by about a meter...that way she has to clear the electric fence and the fence itself which she would get fed up with trying to do...
Do you have a routine with her....maybe turning up at different times is upsetting her and because of the new yard she might be a little unbalanced and nervous....
Once she finds a field mate she wont bother with jumping out...
for the mean time double fence the fence with electric fencing which should put her off attempting to jump it...
good luck....

there are 2 other horses at the yard but she doesn't share a field with either of them! they are both geldings and other lady doesnt like them being with mares.

I dont wanna put her in a stable as she has not long been off 3 weeks box rest. (might explain why she's keeps escaping)

Routine is the same 5am in the morn turn out and breakfast 6pm in evening in and dinner

the other 2 horses tend to swap and change weather they are in or not. I would love to leave her out more as she is a native but if she's getting out i can't trust the people in the summer house to keep the bottom gate shut and if she were to get out of that she would be on a major road.....

I think its going to be electric tape.

from the sounds of things looks like she is looking for company...especially if the other horses are stabled sometimes...could be that it will just take her some time to get used to routine and then she should be fine...natives are clever little things....I just set up an electric fence around my normal fence which made my pony have to stretch to jump it which she couldnt be bothered to do...and if she did jump the electric fence she would then be stuck between the main fence and the electric fence so would not have enough of a leap to jump the main fence....
Have you watched her jump the fence at all...? Sometimes they have a habit of rolling underneath the fence too....!!
