Saw this on another website it went out on ESPN in america a few weeks ago. AM NOT letting my mum watch this, I'll never be allowed out again. But it does worry me why cna't they make modular jumps, that fall and can be rebuit and look solid, that will help prevent deaths, it is worrying, warning this isn't very nice to watch. sorry if this has already been shwon on here but couldn't find it when i searched.

O.M.G.... when you look at it like that, it's def-o scary stuff, but is'nt all sports!!! I agree the fixed jumps could do with looking at in a more of a safety way thow.

Sorry but I think that video is a load of rubbish. Yes, it's sad that people and horses die in rotational falls and reasonable measures should be taken to prevent it...but papier mache fences??? do leave off!

So, consider what happens at point to point tracks where the fences are known to be low and soft. Trainers take fast horses that are not good jumpers because they've got a chance of winning. The fences don't need so much jumping so horses can go faster and consequently can be more likely to fall. If there's a track with massive, stiff fences, jockeys and trainers know the fences are there to be jumped so only good jumping horses go and the jockeys ride accordingly (because they can still win if they don't go flat out).

We know eventing is dangerous. Good, highly skilled riders die from rotational falls. Riders choose to event despite knowing the risks. If you don't want to take the risk, don't do it but don't ruin the whole character of the sport in the quest for safety.

*gets off soapbox and goes to learn dressage test for event this weekend*

i agree with paper mache, what were they thinking to suggest that, can you imagine how long it would take to get through all the riders? Does make you think about safety though and is worrying really.
