My daughter wanted to foster for a dog rescue but fell in love with her first foster dog and ended up keeping it! She felt awful letting down the owner of the rescue centre who seems such a hard working, caring woman and decided to go about fund raising. We're going to go for a car boot sale and have secured some really fab stuff - no tatty toys or chipped crockery in sight! Disappointingly, I have a friend who's moving soon and another friend who has just downsized to a five bedroom house (yes, honestly!) and both have already taken masses of items to charity shops but they've still managed to give us some great items!

Now, the dog rescue is based in Brentwood, Essex, an area I don't know, but we thought rather than go to a boot sale local to us, we'd be better going to one in the Brentwood area where people may be more inclined to support a local charity. Someone told us the one at Boreham is the largest car boot in the country but someone else told us the Lazy Bones car boot in Rettendon is better because it starts later and attracts more people as a result.

Anyone know anything about either of these venues or know of anywhere better? Really want to raise as much money as possible! Our local feed merchant is letting us put a collection box in his shop as well as a bin where people can donate food - he said he'd put any dented cans or damaged boxes of biscuits in the bins for good measure!

Daughter's little rescue dog was living on the tenth floor of a tower block and social workers recommended her removal because of domestic violence. She's now loving living the life of a country dog in a multi-dog household. She's a year old Springer x Staffie called Lily and she's gorgeous!

I'm also posting this in Club House.

What a lovely thing to do, and a lovely thought: and lucky Lily.

I live in Brentwood, and have to say that unfortunately the local bootsales in the surrounding areas actually attract a not very nice crowd, and that is why I don't bother doing them anymore.

There is a huge one at Dunton (which would be similar to Rettendon); my friend actually had a sale at this one at the weekend and found it traumatic and said she would not do it again.
Although she made quite a bit of money, she had people tearing her bags of clothes open whilst still in the boot, people stealing items and bags of clothes, people bartering down to silly prices, very rude, pushy and unpleasant people. And her being an eastender - she is a tough cookie if she says it was traumatic then it must have been horrendous!
Someone bought up bags of her (designer) clothes for peanuts only to say they would be selling them all on ebay. I don't think that the people these large sales would actually care where the proceeds were going to.

Sorry to sound negative, but your doing such a lovely thing, I just wanted to warn you. Big bootsales in Essex are really not pleasant to sell at.

Perhaps the lazybones one might be better and I have heard there was one near my yard in brentwood, but I have no idea where. If the signs are still up, then I will let you know what they say.

Oh, God - that sounds horrific! We want a fairly big car boot so there will hopefully be lots of buyers but don't fancy what you've described! Any other info would be greatly appreciated!
