Hi,
Please feel free to self-punctuate this post with smilies etc. , I can't get mine to work!
I'm coming down from ooop noorth for the Olympics, staying near Epping, and we've luckily got tickets for x-country day, but Greenwich is miiiiiles away and either hours and hours by public transport or half way round the dreaded car park that is the M25! (oh yes, tales from the M25 have been heard of even north of Birmingham.
Can anyone give me some ideas as to how we can get to Greenwich, as other than setting off at 2am to avoid traffic I can't see how we can do it!!!!

Leftover Easter eggs for all who get this far (why do people give me Easter eggs when they know I'm on a diet???)

It would no way be hours and hours by public transport! It's around 1hr15mins from Epping to Greenwich.

If you drive it will take around 40 mins, off the A12 and then onto 406

Unless I have the wrong Epping?

I've just checked (was told it was near Epping in Essex) and it's actually Billericay in Essex where we are staying. Hope that narrows it down! Thanks

40 minutes max in a car. Or mainline train into Stratford then DLR to Greenwich. You'll be fine, Essex isn't that big or complicated.

ETA You have absolutely no need to go near the M25 other than over it on your journey into the Smoke.

Well I'm confused... I looked at the different venues the other night on the Internet and I was convinced Greenwich was waaaaay over to the west of London! I must have been looking at the wrong thing, now feel a bit foolish (please insert embarrassed smilie here!)

I really wouldn't drive as I think parking will be an issue.

Public transport should be starting earlier and running a bit later over the period of the Olympics. You'll get a free Zone 1-6 travelcard so you just need to get to London.

As far as i know there is NO parking at all at any of the olympic venues for any sports as they want you to use the travel card you get free with your tickets. Epping is on the underground line (i used to stay with friends st epping and catch the tube to guys hospital many times) get on the underground and go in to london Bridge (should be free with your travel card then change to greenwich overhead line. (above ground) we are coming down for the dressage from norfolk so are having to do the same.

It will be fine form Billericay, just over an hour by train. :)

Put the postcodes into google maps and you will see how easy it is :)

ETA Even if it was west london, it still wouldn't take hours as it's not that far away. :)

I'm off to the Olympics too, from not a million miles from where you'll be. Dressage though, not X country. I plan on taking the train (going through Billericay station :)), getting off at Stratford then taking the Metro to Greenwich.

That should get you there in about an hour.:)
