Just a question out of curiosity as I have a fair idea of how big the little fella will reach, but what height would you expect an (almost) yearling to be now(at 10 months old) if he were to reach the prospective height of 14.2 at adulthood?

As I say, just me musing...and trying to keep myself awake so someone humour me

Well, our Dales are expected to mature at around 14.2ish - our two yearling fillies are roughly (very rough estimate!) about 12.2 at the moment, and our yearling just-gelded is about 12.3/13.h - we've found that some of them really shoot up and get their height really early on and then fill out during their 3/4 year, whilst others bulk up and then put the height on. My sister has a Welsh D yearling expected to finish about about 15hh, and she is 13.1 at the moment.

My little lad is all legs atm, and an estimate(comparing him with my little welshy) would put him at roughly the 12.2 mark......I do think he's going to be at the upper height range for a Forester.

I think they're supposed to be 90% of their full height as a yearling - and I take that to be the end of their yearling year, not the beginning!

Need a calculator to work that out!

Apparently there is a test you can do at any age. Measure from the dimple in the knee to the top of the hoof, and what that measure in inches is the adult height in hands. But don't hold me to it...

I think with the Newfies a lot of how they turn out depends on how good their start in life is.
