Off of topic but OH has been told he can kill foxes to his hearts content but if he ever shoots a wolf its over!!

The Ethiopean wolf is an ugly little critter! Give me a European wolf anyday...thats a proper wolf! :)

Do you know the difference in DNA between a fox and the E.wolf?

I think it's a bonny beast myself.

I'm not a geneticist so I don't particularly know much about
Canid systematics but since you asked I found this...

The wolf-like canids are a closely related group of large carnivores whose chromosomes are stable in morphology and number (2n = 78). The results of allozyme and chromosome analyses suggest several phylogenetic divisions within the Canidae (Fig. 3): (1) the wolf-like canids, including domestic dogs, gray wolves, coyotes, and jackals; (2) the South American canids, including species of diverse morphology but common recent ancestry; (3) the red-fox-like canids of the Old and New World, including red foxes and kit foxes; and (4) monotypic genera -- species such as the bat-eared fox and raccoon dog -- that have a long, separate evolutionary history (Table 1). The fossil record and genetic distances indicate that these divisions began about 7 -- 10 million years ago.

You're always writing essays! And on a beautiful day like today?!

You have to agree a dog and a wolf are far closer than a fox and a wolf!

Yeah, I know but thats what I get for doing shag all all semester. I now have till 2moro morning to write a 3500 word essay that I've not even researched. I'm armed with a tray of red bull and a multi-pack of crisps (usually would have a 20 pack of fags too but I'm trying to quit).

I bet u're out doing something lovely in the countryside, grr.

Yes dogs and wolves are closer than foxes and wolves but there's not much in it. All the same family and that.

No change there then!

Tell us something we don't already know. :p

Hows that for an indignant reply?
