Well that's it, insurance is nearly up on my mares hocks so she is going in to the vets on Friday get them injected with ethyl alcohol as a last chance hope that this might help her spavins.

Has anyone had this done? What's been your experience, good or bad?

Just wanted to say good luck. Haven't any experience of it yet but that would be next step for my mare if this present hick up doesn't get better.
She's had steriods x 3, Tildren x 1 and has been a bit bothered lately but we are hoping that its the hard ground but the ethanol inj will be next step. Vet says there is a strict rehab programme afterwards.
So fingers x all goes well.

Thanks TequilaMist :) we have also had steroid injections which had no effect, didn't try Tildren as her hocks have started to fuse so there was no point, have tried more exercise, less exercise, laying her off and now on bute, but she still struggles some days. Hoping there is nothing to lose with trying the alcohol. Fingers crossed all goes well for your mare and you won't need to go down this route.

We were talking to our referral vet who told us about this, said it was usually very successful. Unfortunately our mare had wrecked the top joint in the hock and was unable to be treated.
