EU planning to ban rodenticides

OK so its obviously all right according to the EU for the kiddiwinks to go down the yard and play where the rats go, and then get leptospiro & bubonic plague plus gawd knows what else; but you can't kill the rats, of course not, that would be cruel wouldn't it.

What a ridiculous situation; they always say truth is stranger than fiction. Sad but true.

They obviously have a few pied pipers stashed away somewhere:rolleyes:

Many rodenticides cause a slow painful death. Proper traps are more effective and much fairer imo, they are animals after all?

It isn't a joke, but really. The rats don't spread diseases on purpose. Why can't they just be killed fairly :S. Maybe I'm completely missing something, but I can't see why anyone would induce a slow death by poisoning, over a quick death by trap (the ones which kill as soon as the rat touches it?) Sorry, maybe there's something I'm not aware over, but I don't understand it.

The last rat I saw had drowned itself in Boblets water bucket :( I did think of trying to resuscitate it, but it was very very dead indeed :(

No, I've never even seen a rat around here (And I'm not being stuck up saying that). This time of the year we get the odd baby rabbit brought home dead, but as our cats go out in groups I imagine they are killed pretty quickly.

As someone who has had to deal with a rat infestation I am sincerely glad you are not a decision maker on such matters.
Commercial rodencides...quick,efficient and these days humane, but if they are banned then people will just make their own with more dire consequences for your dearly beloved rats.
Not too hard to be aware about is it?

but if u have JRT then they will have to look at the hunting ban again, but our 4 do a great job

Not all poisons cause a slow, painful death. Wharfarin (which btw is routinely and regularly given to people with heart problems/blood clot problems to thin the blood) is what I use. To be effective it has to be fed over several days and it basically very gradually thins the blood which is not painful but makes them very sleepy and tired, then they curl up somewhere warm (like the banks in my stable) then give me a bl**dy heart attack when I muck out and find them stiff as a board!!! So at least they get their own back in the end!!
