I watched this horse jumping in the Super League with Wim Schroder last night on Eurosport and was really taken with him. Looking at his breeding he doesn't have huge amounts of TB in his ancestery, but he is a light type, and looked very tempting from an eventers pov. Checked out their website, and his fee is POA, one of only two stallions of theirs that is. So what's the secret? Anyone know? Blatent nosiness, sorry!

Also, as an aside, Cornet Obolonsky was jumping, and I couldn't really see what all the fuss was about?! Anyone care to explain?!

I have a 2yrs old colt by Eurocommerce Pennsylvania. Out of the 48 mares covered that year only 4 got in foal.

i watched Eurocommerce Pennsylvania on the eurocommerce dvd just the other night and i was also interested by his breeding so i did a bit of research as well. he only carries about 23% tb blood probably down to westphalian and hannoverian influences, the stallion goldfisch II features 4 times, 3 of them on the dams side.

the fuss with cornet obolensky is that he was jumping world cup qualifiers successfully as an 8 year old with marco kutscher after being ridden by ludger beerbaum. during his performance tests his received a score of over 9 for his jumping and 10 for his loose jumping. from his 1st crop of foals 14 were licensed in 2005 ( that inculdes the westphalian champion). his foals are also making good prices at auctions.

''Cornet Obolensky is one of the biggest breeding revelations in Germany the past two years, and his offspring are proving to be exceptional.''

"Beautiful types with handsome faces and well proportioned harmonious conformation caused a stir among the public. Particularly impressive were the decidedly spirited, uphill moving motions during the trot".

klatte has cornets prinz by him, schokemohle has cornets stern, gerd sosath has corlensky g, boeckmann has one and one stands at the warendorf state stud.

oh and he was used on some mare called RATINA Z!

hope that helps you see what some of the fuss is about

Cornet is in danger of being a fashion stallion, but I think that it'll be a long standing fashion. Being by and out of a mare who's sires are renowned for shockingly bad semen, it's quite incredible that he exists at all. Be careful of using sons of, they are being heavily pushed simply because of their father's reputation, and the ability of the owners to heavily promote.

Finding a reliable source for his semen is not that easy; as he's so popular in main land Europe, but we're getting there.

Cornet Obolensky was born in 1999 so he is a 9-year-old. (Yes, at least one semen agent lists him as a 7-year-old!)

I purchased frozen semen from Cornet Obolensky several months ago directly from
http://www.gestuetligges.com

The semen is stored for Ligges at a German EU station
http://www.genntrans.de
and they handled transport and health papers.

No hassle. Reliable. And everyone I dealt with speaks English.

Cornet Obolensky also seems to real stamp his stock. Having watched the videos for Westphalen gradings in recent years they all have a similar frame and elegance and that very atheltic uphill trot which is so eye catching
Cornet's Stern was one of my favourites at the Schockemohler stallion show in Feb.

Cornet’s Prinz and Stern have to be 2 of my favourite up and coming young stallions and I think the guys at Shock are very excited about Cornet’s Stern’s future so on that basis Obolensky is a good choice however as Ken has said he is not renowned for good semen quality and I have also heard his temperament is not the greatest. As Volatis said tho he certainly stamps his stock and they do jump!

i really wanted to use cornets stern but with reports from a few peope semen was not v~good i didnt go with him and choose something different really liked him and cornet obolensky

I recently saw a 3 year old colt by Cornet Obolensky called Cosinhus. I was blown away, just beautiful. He has a fab jump and moves very well on the flat. I want him

(Pointless post but just had to mention him!)

i wanted to use cornet stern for my mare but the stud my mare was at (lambridden stud) told me that his seman does not travel well and therefore i used champion FP as the foals by him that are at the stud look vetry impresive
