What a few days certainly not helped by the snow. Many thanks to BBs for the weather updates. Travelling from Cornwall to Stow was a worry and the in the end we left a extra day early and travelled up on Wednesday night to the Unicorn Centre. Could appreciate the snow then on Thursday particularly thanks to the superb facilities at the Unicorn Centre including huge indoor school.

The trial was on Friday and only 8 of the 24 made it. We had 3 sessions a dressage session showing off individual movements that went really well (she actually tucked her nose in and looked like a dressage horse!)

We then had to do team movements as part of this event is a quadrille test. She was a bit tense in this particularly as the horse in front kept spooking and swishing its tail in her face. You have to be very close together and really need to work as a team as it looks a mess if you miss a transition.

The jumping involved a course with spooky fillers and a line of a corner to arrowhead. It caused a lot of problems and half had loads of faults unfortunatly a missed her at one but just a fence down wasn't bad. We managed to make it home alright as well.

There is another selection trial in 2 weeks for those who didn't make it so wait until after then to hear. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Well done sounds like she was a very good girl

What dressage movements did you have to do? and how complicated will Quadrille be? And lastly what height for the SJ?
Sorry lots of questions want to see what we may aspire to one day

Will keep fingers crossed for you, well done again

Traveux, Shoulder in, rein back, leg yeild, medium and collected paces

Hard to explain bt included leg yield medium paces circles, rein back all at one horse length with transitions at exactly the same moment. Looks crap when done badly!

The SJ is either 1.20 or 1.25 I can't remember - same as CIC**. It is something I have aimed at for a while. It takes place every 2 years now. Aim for it in 2 years.

Thank you for the update, have started most of the movements but we are a long way off being polished, dressage being our weekest bit.
I suppose they also have to consider how well the horses work together for the quadrille.
Fingers still crossed

you got me all excited then.. when i read the title 'we actually made it' i thought you ment you'd made it onto the team! haha i forgot about all the snow up there!

well done tho!! and a huge good luck for the rest of it!!!

Well done for getting there - it must have been a big trek. Fingers crossed for selection for you.

Oh fab!! 2 good friends went out to the last Rural Riders comp so if you need any advice i can easily ask them.....they had an amazing time

How exciting, Sienna would hate being that close to strangers - she was very good for putting up with the tail swishing.
Must have been a horrible journey

Sounds like they changed the trial format a bit since I did it. Also they announced a "short-list" after the trials who were all going to do training, but I think it had at least twice the number on it who would eventually go. Well done, glad she behaved on the flat!

Oh well done SJ! The Unicorn Centre is not far from me and I am glad you made it before the snow set in - you can appreciate how tricky/impossible your journey would have been otherwise!

I will keep fingers VERY Xed you hear good news shortly

Thanks Weezy

We never see snow like it down here. It is probably the most I have ever seen! It was a bit dodgy going home for a while although once we got to the motorway it was ok.

I thought that you meant that you had been selected as one of the 8 people of the 24 at first!
But sounds brilliant, I would be very surprised if you were not selected!

Good blooming job you left on Wednesday! the weather was awful

Sounds like you had a bit of fun and that youve taken a bit away with you
smile.gif
I would like to know how many ppl had to travel as far as you that didnt make it!! Its not like they didnt know the snow was coming

I am please S behaved in the dressage phases as I know you were worried about that.

I have my fingers x in the next two weeks.

Was Dicky there? who where the trainers?

There were a few peple from Oxfordshire that didn't make it!

Selectors were Jane Holderness Rodden, Captain Richard Waygood, Sir Robert Haman Joyce, and Peter Buist (might have got some of the spellings slightly wrong)

They all seemed a really nice bunch and with the weather there was a good sprirt amongst all the candidates.

Enjoyed it. Thanks for the waether updates

Well I think they are all rubbish for not turning out! when you came a million miles away and made it!
HAHA no worries, just pleased you made it, would have been sods law had you not got there they wouldnt have bothered holding another date in 2wks.

Did you go back home on friday?
