I’m posting this as I was looking for up to date answers before I had to do it and there wasn’t anything very recent.

I had my beautiful girl put to sleep in July 24, the costs of the vet euthanasia and cremation (no ashes back) were:

Vet - call out (normal hours non emergency), drugs £345.54
Cremation (collection, group cremation no ashes back) £700
Total £1045.54

Vets were Oakham Equine, cremation Peaceful Pets in Kings Lynn.

It was all very well done, no complaints.

I hope this is useful for others.

im sorry you lost her, mine was much more than that 😳💔
Really? Vets costs or cremation costs? I know you can pay a lot for ashes back but I wasn’t interested in that.

I could have had her cremated for less by the fallen stock people but they have to cut the bodies up to get them in the incinerator and although it doesn’t actually matter when they are dead I couldn’t face that.

Vet non emergency pts costs similar to OP, but collection costs much cheaper.

Cheshire April 2024

Nixons knacker £192 collection only and mass cremation, no ashes back. Co arranged with vet to arrive just after the deed was done, vet stayed to supervise removal.

I have used a specific service, shoot & dispose of body. Local, not linked to hunt. Think was about £300-400. My husband dealt with invoice. We’re polite, considerate and good.

6 weeks ago we lost our much loved 29 year old Welsh pony to colic. OOH ( 2am ) vet. £193.20. Euthanasia by injection, £241.44. Fallen Stock people, collection and disposal, £390. Individual cremation and ashes returned in casket, £220. So total £1045. He'd already had 2 vet visits during the day prior to this, another £225.

Just to give an alternative....it may not be your choice, although it is mine, but sometimes people are strapped for cash and I have seen horses kept going longer than ideal as a consequence.
February 2024, shooting, collection and disposal with the hunt £170.
Yes I was aware of the options. But I have posted my costs because when I was searching for some 2024 posts with costs of vet pts and cremation (as I was set on that) I couldn’t find much, so hoping mine will be helpful to someone else.

I’d have paid whatever it cost but wanted to be prepared but couldn’t bring myself to actually call vets and ask.

1st January 2024, pts by shooting and collected at same time, 12hh pony £280. Not a great way to start the new year but the vet wasn't an option in time.

Vet ~ £6-800 for injection + collection by knackerman - depends on size here.

I had to say goodbye to one of mine a couple of months ago, and will likely be saying goodbye to another before the winter. The cost of the vet and collection service was for me prohibitive given that I will probably have to do it twice in 6 months, so for the first time ever I opted to have the hunt do it. I have to say that for the horse I felt it was far more humane than my previous experiences with the vet. And only £150 compared to around a grand! The horse's last thought was "Ooh! Sweeties!" - none of the horrible waiting for them to pass over that you get with injection, where I always feel like I want to change my mind.
acw295 I am so sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹
