Thank you. Moke, Unfortunately it was for my beautiful girl Tiggy. I received the invoice a week to the day. It's £542.93 plus VAT: Sedation 17.20; Hospitalization 22.00; Euthanasia £503.73. I took her to the site (a vet's, those who have read other posts will knwo which one). Friday was a hard enough day as it was, to get this was....
Surely it should have gone straight to the insurance company? I think they only pay £300, which was more what I expected it to be (if there was to be any charge at all).
Sorry to go on. It's just added to a really crap time. I haven't been here before, I don't know what to expect, to know what is right and to be expected or otherwise.
Sorry to hear about your horse. Just been through it myself. Did that include disposal? I was quoted £120 for my vet to inject my mare, that included callout. In the end I went for the gun option though (£94.)
Cremation would have been £350 for a communal cremation, £500 for individual.

Sorry to hear you've had such a horrible time too
I don't know what happened: I took her to the vet's in question to help with their on-going research. It was a long way, but seemed worth it if it meant the Tig's death would not be in vain. After she had gone, I sat with her, but I knew that the pathology was to come, so to me my Tigs had gone and the body was not Tiggy. I know others would and do think differently.
Hi Mrs Mozart sorry to hear you are having a crap time espicialy after the support you have gave me when i lost my horse the same day as you lost tiggy. my bill was £120 for the euthanasia and £210 for the collection and disposal.
My bill appears to be roughly double the average going by peoples replies on here. I don't know why
Will let you know if I get a response. I bet they say it's a commercial business, etc etc, but the amount was not agreed in advance and so far it does not appear reasonable. I hate to have to use my 'work head' in my world and at such a time. Just feel sad now.
Sorry (again!), feeling sorry for self and wallowing. Will snap out of it.
Did you request any ashes back? What you have been charged sounds about right for individual cremation with ashes back. If you didn't request anything special then I would imagine about £300 for cremation only.
My disposal bill plus injection costs etc were about £350. It was done at home so included a visit. It was £200 to have the hunt collect and cremate her.
Unfortunately the bill can't go straight to the insurers as it is you that owe the money to the vet, not the insurers. If you have insurance and the company pay then that will either go directly to the vet or directly to you depending on what you have chosen.
If there is any problem with the insurance (eg. you haven't been paying your premiums or the particular situation is outwith the terms of your policy) then it is still you who owe the money hence the bill has to go to you in the first place.
Sorry if that doesn't sound very sympathetic, I seem to have explained it rather badly!
I would speak to the vets concerned and ask them to break the bill down further and discuss it with them.
It does sound expensive. My boy was PTS in June. It was £150 for collection and disposal of his remains. He was PTS during an op and that was paid directly to th vet by the insurance. The collection & disposal was by someone else and I paid them direct. He was cremated as part of a group. If I had an individaul cremation, with ashes back in a box it would have been £1000 so I paid the lesser amount and donated some money to an animal charity as I thought it was a better use of the money than geting his ashes back
Hollycat that's a really nice idea, I sometimes think I would have like to have had the ashes back but it's a good way of remembering them, to know other animals have benefitted.
hi, my 14.2 sadly was put to sleep three years ago callout and injection was £100 & £560 for cremation plus got the ashes back prices may have gone up sinse then .x
Thank you all for your responses, and sorry to raise sad memories
Tiggy was insured and the other invoices went direct to the insureres, with a copy coming to me.
I didn't get her ashes back.
Hey ho. Will await their response. Will let you know how it goes. At least now the insurance company has all the paperwork (I hope! It's taken three attempts so far).
Thanks Nudibranch. I didn't know what to do with such a big casket and as I volunteer for a local cat charity, I am sponsoring a pen for a cat to stay in while its being rehomed. Its nice as it has a pic on the pen saying its in memory of Tornado and I know the pen will do a lot of good for an abandoned or abused cat
