Went to a lesson today and the other horses were clipped. My boy did get pretty hot and sweaty so Im wondering should I clip all year round? He's still got the end of a blanket clip from the winter. Should I just give him a hunter clip?

He events at novice BE level and BSJA's. This is what he'll be doing all summer.

Is it the norm to clip eventers / SJers all year round???

I clipped mine on Sunday, but this is the first time I've ever clipped in the summer and I only did it as she hadn't been clipped all winter and was really hairy. I've never had to clip a 'normal' horse before and ours all event and SJ all summer OK.

A lot of SJers are clipped all year

Totally normal to clip all year round should your horse demand it - it is only if you are showing a horse that you need to be wary about clipping. As yours still has a lingering blanket clip I would clip out now - if you look in the pic gallery I clipped my girl a month ago and she has developed a summer coat no problem.

So..... should I or shouldnt I??? It doesnt matter really does it? Ive just never thought of clipping in the summer, but think my horse may be more comfortable.

But when should I stop clipping in time for him to grow a winter coat (back into a blanket to give him some warmth)?

Bo gets really hot throughout the summer. I didn't clip him last year, but am seriously considering it this year. He has just about grown out his winter coat now, and is already getting warm when ridden

Trike hates being clipped....and after the last kick i received he can wait until the winter before being done again

I fully clipped out the one I ride about a month agao and summer coat has started to grow through but will keep clipping all year to keep her cool. She has been out last two nights with no rug on and has coped fine.
