Went out to a 'fun' ride today with a friend. Juno was in super mood, loaded in one go and only rubbed her tail a teeny bit compared to usually being raw! Thought this was brilliant, took her out to tack her up then one man on his horse came charging at us (scared horse mean rider), cue my foot being stood on as my 16.1hh ISH rushes to hide behind me
Thought 'right okay I can do this' hobbled off and continued on. Then friend asks me to hold her horse while she grabs a saddle, in 2 seconds her horse puts her head through my horses reins, I'm caught in the middle with my fingers caught in all sorts! Eventually got off and hand was near broke but oh no that won't put me off. My usual donkey like horse turned into a fire breathing dragon as soon as I sat in the saddle, she was squeaking and bucking and pretty sure she thought we were out for a hunt. I don't know what was up with me today but usually I'd be in near tears at this point with nerves but no!
We then set off, and after prancing down the road sideways she let out a big sigh and plodded a long. That was until she saw a clydesdale up ahead. Of course me being the heavy horse fanatic I want to go over and talk to the lady but Juno was terrified of him which everyone thought was hilarious. She wouldn't go past him unless a horse was between them and shot forward if he was any less than 15ft behind her. Then she saw her 'boyfriend', well now ex boyfriend. Only two geldings in the world she will give her time of day to and he was one of them. All summer they were stuck together like glue, but today as she squealed at him and came literally flouncing over (I had no brakes for the first time ever with her) he lunged at her! After lots of snorting she got the idea and left him alone, poor girl. After being heartbroken she decided that friends mare was the most important thing in existence and she wasn't allowed out of her sight. That was all fine until we were cantering up a narrow lane, as in slowest canter you can do because friends horse is baby and these two women come galloping up behind us, overtook and flung stones up in their passing. A rock hit me on the head only because I ducked, whereas a stone hit my friend and knocked her tooth out! She went up ahead to front to let them know and I was at the back with my prancing circus horse. Got lots of comments 'oh shes a hot headed one don't know how you manage' er usually I can hardly get her into canter!!! It took about 20 minutes to get back up to the top to her friend, and I was nearly there until Juno's ex decided it would be the perfect moment to double barrel her even though he was two horses ahead?!? Missed her but caught me on the same bloody foot he kicked at the end of the summer which tore all my ligaments.
After that Juno turned into a nightmare and was pulling very unflattering faces at every horse ready to strike. Got back exhausted but in one piece luckily but my other friends horsebox was stolen along with £200 worth of equipment inside so feel awful for her. Sat at home now nursing my swollen foot and bruised fingers, so yep what an eventful day
